InterRailing

Hey,

This post will be a bit different to the topic of the blog, but I feel it is definitely worth mentioning! Me and two friends are going to go Inter Railing next Summer! A 3 week inter-rail pass only costs €410, which is great value considering you can visit as many countries as you possibly can within a three week period. Once I get Prague out of the way, my plan is to get a loan to buy my ticket. Once the ticket is bought, the ball is then rolling and there is no waiting around until its too late. I will pay off the loan leading up to Summer and then work as many hours as possible before August and save as much as I can. When you take spending money into account, it really adds up to a lot. However, the way I see it is we only get the opportunity to go on an adventure like this while we are in college and do not have loads of responsibilities. You would never know what will happen once you leave college, so I am going to grab this opportunity and embark what will be the trip of a lifetime. So all I have left to say is roll on August 2017!!

Until next time,
Dylan.

Daniel Avery @ District 8

Hey,

As you can tell from my other similar blog posts, District 8 is probably my favourite venue in Ireland.
Saturday gone I had the pleasure of attending Daniel Avery, and he was outstanding. Tickets were sold out, which means the place was packed! When D8 sells out, the atmosphere in the place is next level. Everyone is there for the same love for music and I didn't, nor do I ever, see any violence. Here are two of my favourite Daniel Avery tunes.

#1: Daniel Avery- Need Electric

#2; Daniel Avery- Drone Logic

Until next time,
Dylan.

Tunes On Repeat #12

Hey,

You know the score, here are the three tunes which I have found myself constantly listening to throughout the week.

#1: Coldplay: Everglow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH9g5hYKHBU

#2: Paolo Nutini- Last Request
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkA4xcIAvuw

#3:One Republic- Counting Stars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT_nvWreIhg

Two out of three of these songs are relatively old, but that does not mean that they are not great. Sometimes listening to house or techno gets a bit much and I revert back to these type of songs.

Until next time,
Dylan.

Dusky @ The Button Factory

Hey,

Friday just gone I headed to Dublin to see Dusky with a friend. It was a completely last minute decision, I was in the library doing college work and my friend who is doing an apprenticeship in Dublin lent me some money. I am bad for doing thing on impulse, and I am not totally sure whether that is a good or a bad thing. One thing I done know is that we have a great night. I have always been a fan of Dusky and I could not pass the opportunity to see them.

Here are tow of my favourite tunes by these geniuses:

#1: Dusky: Jilted

#2: Dusky- Buckets

Until next time,
Dylan.

Body & Soul

Hey,

Just bought my ticket for Body & Soul 2017. I have never been but I have heard that it's absolutely amazing. Tickets at the moment cost €165.00 for a weekend camping. The lineup is not announced yet, but it would be a good idea to buy your tickets now at a lower price if you plan on attending.
Just figured I would post this to help people save a few euro.

Until next time,
Dylan.

WHP DJ EZ

Hey,

Me and my friends have made some fairly last minute plans to head to Manchester for the Warehouse Project (WHP). We are going to see DJ EZ on the 3rd of December. I was not really a fan of DJ EZ before Electric Picnic. However, my mates were going to see him so I went with. To say I was blown away is an understatement. He was probably my favourite act of the whole festival. Seriously looking forward to that weekend away. We will probably head out somewhere in Manchester on the Saturday night too, just to make the most of the weekend. I've never been in Manchester, but I have heard nothing but great things about the nightlife. I can't wait to finish my last two assignments and get my three exams over and done with so that I can properly look forward to WHP!\

Until next time,
Dylan.

This Weekend in Dublin

Hey,

Here are some events which I would recommend attending this coming weekend in Dublin.

Friday:
Friday is a massive night this week, with huge talent gracing decks around Dublin.
Sam Paganini (Drumcode) is playing District 8. This would be my #1 recommendation for Friday night, the man is a beast!
Second City are playing in Opium Rooms, which would also be a good shout. They were playing in Waterford a few weeks ago, he was lit.
Erik Morillo is hitting the Button Factory. Another talented DJ, but I personally I feel Sam Paganini and Second City are better.

Saturday:
Luigi Madonna (Drumcode) is headed for the Button Factory Saturday night. He is up there with Paganini, and is also under the same label. Both of them have unreal tunes.
Dimitri From Paris will be playing District 8. A very talented DJ, but if I was to chose, Luigi Madonna for sure!

So there you have it, some events in Dublin this weekend if you are looking for a good night out.
Until next time,
Dylan.

Hey,

Here's whats in store in the capital this weekend.

Friday

  • Blawan & Psych are taking to District 8 for hopefully what will be a repeat of their last visit.
  • Curve present Bontan & Dan Stritch in the Button Factory. Two very talented DJs! Bontan's remix of 'Got a Feeling' by Josh Butler is a tune played at almost any house party. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GzlL-LK73s
Saturday
I hope this was somewhat helpful,
Until next time,

Prague

Hey,

This is off the general topic of this blog, but I figured that I would mention it anyway. Today I booked flights to Prague to visit two of my friends who are doing a year Erasmus there. Stupidly, I booked the wrong flights, but another €50 later, I have it sorted now. My friend from home and friends from my college course will be going also. I haven't been anywhere since I headed to Amsterdam last December. If it is anything like Amsterdam was, we are in for a treat! Im not sure if you can comment on blogs, but if anyone who happens to view this has been to Prague before and has any recommendations, they would be greatly appreciated.

Until next time,
Dylan.

Metropolis 2016

Hey,

Metropolis is a festival held annually in the RDS, Dublin. It is on Thursday night, and all day both Friday and Saturday. The lineup is packed with great talent this year. The likes of Cyril Hahn, Mall Grab, Paul Kalkbrenner, Fatima Yamaha and Booka Shade will be in attendance. Considering the fact that it is based close to Dublin City centre, this gives for easy access into town after the main event. Other festivals like Boxed Off and BD are out of the way and you have to hire a private bus which may cost €20+ per head. 3 day tickets cost €129.50, while single day tickets for Friday and Saturday cost just €79.50. It is a no-brainer that this event will be lit, so if you are looking for something to do this weekend... look no further!

Until next time,
Dylan.

Tunes On Repeat #7

This Weekend in Dublin

Hey,

This weekend is a Bank Holiday weekend and it is shaping up to be amazing. On Saturday & Sunday some glorious talent will grace the nightclubs of Dublin.

Saturday
Shadow Child & T. Williams will be playing in Opium Rooms, which is a great venue.

Format B will be playing in The Hangar. Im sure everyone knows his tune 'Chunky' by now. Hangar is also a great venue for a night out.

Sunday
Bank Holiday Sunday sees the return of Winterparty, which will be held in the 3Arena. Huge talent such as Sven Vath, Hot Since 82, Skream & Matador will be in attendance. If you are able to attend, you definitely should. It is the first Winterparty in 10 years, I believe. Once the Winterparty is over, the DJs will split up and head to venues around Dublin to play another set at after parties. If you are unable to attend the actual Winterparty for whatever reason, Skream in Opium Rooms would be my number one recommendation . I am working till 730pm myself, so I cannot attend the Winterparty. However, I will make sure that I get to see Skream in Opium.

I hope this was somewhat helpful for someone,
Until next time,
Dylan Murphy.

Tunes On Repeat #6

Hey,

You know the drill, these are my three favourite tunes this week.

#3: Reflekt Feat. Delline Bass - Need To Feel Loved (Adam K & Soha Vocal Mix)

Hope you enjoy,
Dylan Murphy.

This Weekend in Dublin

Hey,

As per usual, this weekend sees some great acts hitting stages all around Dublin. I will recommend an event for Friday & Saturday.

Friday: Curve present Adam Beyer in the Button Factory.
Adam Beyer is an absolute beast, all of his sets are A1. All the tickets are sold out, which is no surprise, but there are lots of tickets being sold in groups such as Tune Drop & Ticket Drop on Facebook. He was one of the best acts I seen at Electric Picnic.

Saturday: Totally Extinct Enormous Dinosaurs in District 8.
One of my friends was present at their last set in D8 and he said they were great. They must be great considering the fact he is wanting to go again this weekend, but it is a pity that I am working.

Of course there are other acts playing that will not disappoint, but these are the two acts which I would definitely recommend. You can get the latest updates for DJs playing around Dublin on the Resident Advisor website; https://www.residentadvisor.net/events.aspx?ai=43.

Until next time,
Dylan Murphy.

Tunes on Repeat #5

Hey,

You know the drill, these are my three favourite tunes this week.

#1: OneRepublic- Human
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhYwtJQYdCs

#2: The Temper Trap- Sweet Disposition (Youngr Bootleg)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNu7RIGirNg

#3: Raumakustic- Logic

Bye for now,
Dylan Murphy.

Electric Picnic 2017

Hey,

I am aware that Electric Picnic is a long time away, but I have already purchased my ticket. Considering how good of a time I had this year, I figured I can't miss it next year. In addition, buying a ticket this soon will save you some money realistically. Once they sell out, people try to charge outrageous prices for a ticket. In saying that, you would probably get a ticket for face price in the days leading up to the festival. The lineup is not announced yet, and won't be for some time. But I couldn't care who is at it because it will be great fun regardless! My ticket cost me €220. If you have been to Electric Picnic before, you get a discount for every year you have been there. Seeing as I had only been there one year I think the discount was 5 or 10 euro. Next September is a long time away but I genuinely can't wait for EP17!

Until next time,
Dylan Murphy.

WHP Manchester

Hey,

The Warehouse Project, which takes place in Manchester, is a series of Djs attending on different dates to play at a rave in a huge warehouse. For example, MK is playing on the 4th of November, and Jackmaster is playing the following day. It is nicely spread out over a number of weekends, which gives for a month or more of serious acts and parties. All tickets seem to be <€40, which is ideal. On the site you can opt in for a ticket an hotel deal, which costs about €140. Once you have that sorted, you can just get a return flight to Manchester and your prepared then. It would be a good idea to get away for a weekend before Christmas with your friends. You ideally would make a long weekend out of it, and perhaps get your Christmas shopping over there. A lot of the acts are also sold out, but DJ EZ is not. He was probably the best act I seen at Electric Picnic this year. I am myself considering to head over to WHP to see him again, hopefully i'll get the money together.

Till next time,
Dylan.

This Weekend in Dublin

Hey,

Yet again, this weekend is shaping up to be a great one in Ireland's capital. You can always be certain that at least two great acts will be hitting Dublin during any given weekend. Blawan & Psyk take to D8's decks on Friday night. As I have stated before, D8 is probably my favourite venue in Ireland. I always have a great time there, regardless of who is playing. Also on Friday, Julio Bashmore is playing in Opium Rooms. You have probably heard this track of his at some stage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnigNbYVQJE). Truncate will be present at the Hangar, which is another great venue. The main room is unreal and is equipped with a mental sound system.

Motor City Drum Ensemble are playing in D8 on Saturday night. This event is looking pretty much like a sell out from what I can gather from the Facebook event. George Fitzgerald will be in the Button Factory on Saturday night. Here is a mix he done of a classic Dense & Pika tune (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tA2ZzL1Mj4). If I had to recommend anyone for this weekend, I would personally recommend Josh Butler who is playing in the Hangar on Saturday night. He is a severely talented DJ, here is my favourite tune by him, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eORI79PiKE).

So there you have it, some night time entertainment for anyone who may be travelling to Dublin and are unsure of where to go.

Until next time,
Dylan.

Tunes on Repeat #4

Hey,

The three tunes which I have stuck on repeat this week are;

#1: Maxxi Soundsystem- Medicine

#2: Hailee Steinfeld- Starving

#3: B.o.B- So Good
- I found this blast from the past on a throwback Thursday playlist on Spotify. It may be old, but it is without a doubt just as good as ever.

Until next time,
Dylan.

Snowbombing 2017

Hey,

A festival which has been brought to my attention is Snowbombing. It will be held from the 3rd-8th of April next year in Austria. I have not seen the likes of Snowbombing yet, it is held up in the snowy mountains of Austria. You can go skiing throughout the festival, while at the same time see some of the top DJs right now. The lineup includes; Hot Since 82, Eats Everything, MK, Gorgon City, Skream, Dusky, Disciples & Alan Fitzpatrick. It is supposed to be epic, considering the fact it is set in the snowy mountains. Fatboy Slim himself stated, 'there is only one snow festival'. This festival is a bit on the pricy side, but it would definitely be worth splashing out for the experience you will have.

Until next time,
Dylan.

Tunes on Repeat #4

Hey,

Here are the three tracks which I can't stop listening to this week.

#1: Charlie Puth- We Don't Talk Anymore (Kyle Meehan x Xero x Kyle Dockery Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OZiCwlj2-Y

#2: MOUNT & Palastic- Once Again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKeSaff5koI

#3: Oliver Koletzki- Iyewaye (Hatzler Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFXvrkejTGM
-I heard this gem at Boxed Off and didn't catch the name of the track. However, I was delighted to find someone posted a video asking for the track ID into Tune Drop, which is a huge music sharing group on Facebook with thousands of members. So I got the track ID in the end, obviously.

Until Next Time,
Dylan.

ADE- Amsterdam Dance Event

Hey,

ADE will kick off on the 19th of October through to the 23rd. You can look at the website by clicking on this link: https://www.amsterdam-dance-event.nl/. If you are big into dance/tech house kind of music like me, then ADE is the perfect place for you. The lineup is absolutely huge! To name a few, the lineup includes:
-Adam Beyer
-Alan Fitzpatrick
-Dense & Pika
-Nicole Moudaber
-Len Faki
-Rodhad
-Marco Reeve
-Kolsch
-Sven Vath
-Pan Pot

These are some of the greatest DJs right now and you could go to just one day of ADE or a few. Considering it is in Amsterdam, you could get cheap flights and stay in a hostel for a few nights. This should not cost too much, and a one day pass to ADE would be cheap enough also. So for anyone looking for last minute plans, look no further!

Until next time,
Dylan.

This Weekend in Dublin

Hey,

This weekend sees some massive talent coming to Dublin. Last night (Friday), Slam was playing at Opium Rooms. Some of my friends went and said it was incredible. I did not go myself because I am trying to have a 'quiet' weekend. I do not even know why, considering the fact that I am not working this weekend. I literally work every other weekend and try to make it up to Dublin or wherever after work, and now that I have the weekend off I chose to stay in- logic!

Anyway, tonight Chris Lorenzo is playing in the Button Factory. Great venue to suit a great DJ. Also, District 8 will host Heidi & Derrick Carter. District 8 is always a good shout if you are looking for somewhere to go. They always have top class DJs and the venue itself is one of my favourites. A new club called the Wah Wah Club opened in the last fortnight in Dublin, and it is getting a pretty good response all-round. Dj Deece was playing there last week and he returns again tonight for what is guaranteed to be a great night.

If you are in Dublin tonight and considering going out, I would definitely recommend District 8 tonight. Although, any of the acts/venues I have mentioned for tonight will be lit.

Till next time,
Dylan.

BD Festival

Hey,

BD Festival (Barn Dance) will be held on the 30th of October in Glendalough House, County Wicklow. Just like Boxed Off, it is a one day festival typed thing. It has a great lineup of both well-known and local homegrown DJs. It's different to Boxed Off in the sense that you are allowed to bring your own alcohol, which is definitely very cost effective! You would not even realise how much you are spending at something like this where you are drinking all day, and a pint will cost you upward of 6 euro. The lineup includes talent such as: Friend Within, Wankelmut and Boots & Cats whom played at Boxed Off and were deadly. The rest of the lineup is comprised of local Irish upcoming DJs, whom are usually just as good as the headline acts!

So if your are looking for Halloween plans, you should definitely save the date! For more information about the lineup, tickets, or just general information, visit http://dayofthedead.ie/index.php.

Until next time,
Dylan Murphy.

Tunes on Repeat #3

Hey,

Here are the three songs which I have constantly been listening to this week.

#1: Howling- Howling (Ame Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kqVgbhenEI

#2: London Grammar- If You Wait (Jax Jones Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVeQVybfXHM

#3: Matto- Back To (ft. Beatrich)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giqRLGLtHoo

Hope you enjoy,
Until next time,
Dylan Murphy.

Boxed Off Review

Hey,

Saturday gone, October 2nd, I attended Boxed Off. I explained what it is in my previous blog post. However, for those of you whom are too lazy to go check the other post, Boxed Off is a one day festival in Fairyhouse Racecourse, County Meath. It was absolutely outstanding to say the least. I went to it with close friends and a few good friends from school which I don't see to often. The acts at Boxed Off were absolutely A1. For me, the best acts of the day/night were Alan Fitzpatrick, Dax J and Kolsch. The grounds of the festival itself were relatively small, but that is understandable considering it is only the second year which it took place. I reckon next year they will have to move the festival to a bigger site, because demand for tickets increased sufficiently since last year. And from what I saw on Saturday, I can only imagine the demand for tickets by next year will rocket sky high. I will leave a photo which I took of the Bedlam stage while it was in full swing.

Till next time,
Dylan Murphy.

Boxed Off 2016

Hello,

I have just realised that Boxed Off is next weekend. I had known it was soon, just not that soon. It has been a bit hectic with getting back into the college routine and working for it to even cross my mind. Anyway, for those of you who do not know what Boxed Off is, it is a one day festival which will be held next Saturday in Fairyhouse Racecourse in Dublin. I'm very excited to attend this event because I have heard nothing but great things about it. The DJ's which will be playing are absolutely top class. There is talent such as Kölsch, Alan Fitzpatrick and Eats Everything.

Here are some tunes by each of the named DJS.

Kölsch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw4uP3A6kZw

If you didn't know about it and feel that you would be interested in going, the tickets are sold out unfortunately. However, people are trying to sell their tickets in groups such as Ticket Drop and Tune Drop on Facebook. It would be worth a look if you were any way interested, it is going to be a mental day.

Bye for now,
Dyan Murphy.

Tunes on Repeat #2

Hello,

Here are the three tunes which I have found myself constantly listening throughout this week.

#1: Pleasurekraft- Dopefiend

#2: Thomas Lucian- Our Time

#3: Tchami & MALAA
This is a new track from Tchami, it has been a while since I have heard any new material from him. I saw him back in December last year in the Wright Venue in Dublin and he was incredible.

Bye for now,
Dylan Murphy.

Electric Picnic 2016

Hello everyone,

Today I am going to post about Electric Picnic, which was on from the 2nd till the 4th of September in Stradbally Hall, County Laois.

I have to say it was probably the best weekend of my life. It was such a craic-filled few days with great people and an epic atmosphere. It was my first time being at Picnic and it definitely won't be my last. I have my ticket sorted for next year already. I have had friends attend it over the past few years and I had always thought they had hyped it up to be more than it actually was. However, this was not the case at all! It genuinely surpassed my expectations.

The festival itself is absolutely massive. By the end of the three days I still would not have been able to navigate myself around without getting lost along the way. Getting lost was not a problem though because you would always stumble across a new area or little side stage which would end up being unreal. Besides the fact that my tent was absolutely saturated by Saturday morning, there was not one dull moment throughout the entire weekend. There was always a new area to explore or something different to do. Everyone was there for the same reason- to enjoy the music and make the most of the weekend, so there was no confrontations which was great.

I did not attend as much acts as I had planned to, but I think that is always the case with festivals. When I attended Life Festival back in May it, it was the same story. You would go roaming the festival, but then someone mentions going back to the tent for half an hour to grab a drink. That half an hour always turned into two or more hours. In saying that, I wasn't complaining because most of the laughs we had the weekend were back at the campsite. The acts I did see absolutely blew me away though. DJ EZ was playing in a tent called the Rankin Wood, and I was a bit skeptical about going because I was never a fan of him. After his set that night my opinion has changed, he was absolutely insane. I had the pleasure of attending Adam Beyer, a DJ who manages the massive tech-house label, Drumcode. Other acts such as Huxley, the Chemical Brothers and the Magician also blew me away that weekend.

So, all in all it was an epic weekend and I already cannot wait for next year.

Here is one of the pictures which I took up there, thankfully this one turned out great!

Bye for now,
Dylan Murphy.

This Weekend in Dublin

Hey,

I have noticed that there is some great talent playing in Dublin this weekend. I figured I would throw some of them up here in case anyone is Dublin bound this weekend and do not know where to head out.

Friday 16/09/2016
-Green Velvet is playing in Opium Rooms which is going to be nothing short of fantastic. For anyone who doesn't know Green Velvet, have a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s424FdFCbwo

-Paul Ritch is DJing in the Button Factory at the Winter Party launch night. Winter Party is on Bank Holiday Sunday October 30th in the 3 Arena in Dublin. This is the rebirth of the Winter Party, with it being the first one in ten years! This upcoming event is a great shout also if you are looking for something to do on Bank Holiday Sunday. Huge acts such as Matador, Hot SInce 82 and Skream will be attending.

-It may be late notice, but Lúnasa festival starts today in Louth. I believe last year was the first year of Lúnasa, but nonetheless it has shaped up to be a great weekend. It is packed full of home-grown talent instead of famous acts. If you are looking for last minute plans, look no further.

Saturday 17/09/2016
- Hot Chip is playing a live DJ set in Opium Rooms, it would be a very wise decision to make sure you are there tomorrow night.

- Paul Woolford & Jonas Rathsman are playing District 8 tomorrow night in Dublin. District 8 is probably my favourite venue in Dublin. Regardless of who is playing you are guaranteed to have a great night. It goes without saying that tomorrow night will be absolutely banging with talent like Woolford & Rathsman on the decks.

There are some acts playing this weekend in Dublin. Of course, there are plenty more but these are the ones that I would personally recommend.

Until next time,
Dylan.

Tunes on Repeat #1

Hey,

I have decided to dedicate one of my weekly blog posts to giving links to tunes which I have found myself constantly listening to that week. I think three is a perfect number to keep it short and sweet. So, each week I will be posting three tunes, which may be old or may be new. Regardless of when it was released, a tune will always be a tune.

#1- Todd Terje- Inspector Norse
I know this song a long time, but I had never really took to it. When I was at Electric Picnic a fortnight ago, this song was constantly playing at our campsite and around the festival at different sets. It grew on me though, and now every time I hear it i think of Picnic.

#2- Sam Sparro- Black & Gold
Old but gold. This has always been a great tune, but over the years of switching phones and making new playlists, it somehow went missing on me. I was at a session the other night and this was played and I was delighted to hear it.

#3- Disclosure- Boss
I found this song on Spotify this week. It was on a playlist named 'Discover Weekly', which is a playlist that is updated every Monday with fresh new tunes. For those of you who use Spotify, it is definitely worth a follow because there is always a gem or two on it.

So there you have it, the three tunes which have been played a copious amount this week. I hope they tickle your fancy!

Until next time,
Dylan.

Introduction

Hello,

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Dylan Murphy and I am from Enniscorthy in Wexford. Wexford is in Ireland for those of you who aren't Irish. I am currently in my second year of a BA in Marketing & Digital Media and have to set up a blog for the semester for my Digital Media module. We are expected to blog three times a week and were allowed to base our blogs on whatever area we had an interest in. I have a keen interest in music and festivals so I figured I would roll with that.

In regards to music, I would be fairly open minded and would listen to almost anything. However, genres such as deep house and tech house are usually what I spend my time listening to. Throughout my blog I will be posting track IDs which I stumble across. In addition, I will converse about the various labels, such as Drumcode and Intec, and the artists signed with them. Even though its generally party type music I listen to, I will try my best to have a bit of everything on my blog. I will also be talking about the festivals which take place here in Ireland and abroad. You would be surprised at the amount of festivals which we actually have in Ireland, considering the size of us. One thing for sure is that your average Irish person does indeed enjoy a good ol' toe tap in a mucky field.

To wrap up, this is the general idea for my blog. As I have already stated, I will be posting material three times per week... so watch this space.

Bye for now,
Dylan Murphy.
